Special Olympics Anne Arundel County is always on the lookout for new athletes, and we would also like to hear from you if you can help us out.

If you would like to become a fellow volunteer on our Management Team, please contact our director, Gregg Meade, via the email link below.  All volunteers who work with our athletes are required to complete the volunteer form, attend a volunteer orientation training session, and must attend concussion training, or complete the on-line concussion training. Coaches have additional training requirements, either in-person sessions or on-line training courses. We strongly urge you to retain copies of you completed forms and training certifications for your records, and to also provide copies to our Area Director, Gregg Meade. Thank you for your cooperation.

SOMD has provided a document outlining the requirements for becoming certified as a volunteer, an assistant coach, or a coach.  This document is reproduced below, along with links to supporting documents, forms, and trainings. Once SOMD makes this available on their site, a link will be provided to their document so that you will have access to their official requirements. A copy of the document in Adobe reader format (pdf) is available at the bottom of this page.  Note that some on-line training courses have a fee, which will be reimbursed by SOMD up to $20.  Our program will reimburse you for the portion not covered by SOMD. We also have a page, SOMD News, where we post trainings that are offered by SOMD for Special Olympics athletes when they are available, along with trainings and webinars for coaches. There are links to that page listed near the bottom of this page.

Special Olympics Maryland Anne Arundel County plans an End of Year party in June.  Our policy for attendance at this party is that athletes, volunteers, and coaches must have been active participants in our activities (practices or tournaments) in the preceding 12 months.  Family members and caregivers of active participants may also attend.
